First of the International Symposium on “Reasoned Judgments in the Hıgh Courts Of Appeal” was held

Within the scope of “Strengthening the Institutional Capacity of the Court of Cassation”  which is conducted by the Court of Cassation together with the Council of Europe, first of the symposium on “Reasoned Judgments in the High Courts of Appeal” was held online.  

In his speech, President of the Court of Cassation Mr. Mehmet AKARCA stated that a judiciary which is independent, impartial and which have undisputed integrity is a fundamental institution to ensure compliance with democracy and the rule of law, and pointed out that even when all other protections fail, a well-functioning judicial system provides a safeguard for the public in protecting rights and freedoms provided by the law. Mr. AKARCA emphasized in his speech that decisions of high courts are precedent and guiding because they are given not only for parties but for everyone. 

The event which was conducted in two sessions was attended by Head of the Council of Europe Programme Office in Ankara Cristian URSE, European Court of Human Rights National Judge of Türkiye Assoc. Prof. Dr. Saadet Yüksel, Senior United States High Court Judge, District of Arizona David G. CAMPBELL and Senior High Court President of the United States of America J. Clifford WALLACE.

It is aimed that the reasonings of the Court of Cassation decisions will be improved with the symposiums first of which was held on 30 March 2021, and second of which is planned to be held on 9 April 2021.
